Where to stay in Matelica

Matelica has about 9,000 residents, so the choice is short. You can sleep in the old town, on a wine estate or in a farmhouse in the countryside. Which one fits depends on how you travel, how far you want to walk to dinner and how much you plan to drive each day.

Three places are listed on this page. They are examples of the three settings, with the location as the operators describe it. They are not a ranking. Rooms, prices and availability change, so ask the host directly before you plan around a date.

Which setting suits you

Three ways to sleep in Matelica, with practical pros and cons.

In the old town

Sleeping near Piazza Enrico Mattei means you can walk to the fountain, Palazzo Ottoni and the Museo Piersanti and spend the evening without the car. The center has a ZTL, a limited traffic zone. Ask the hotel about its boundaries, hours and exceptions for guests when you book. The car parks listed by the local tourist office are Piazzale L. Gerani, Via Tiratori and Via Tinte.

On a wine estate

Villa Collepere offers rooms and tastings in the same place. If you taste wine, do not drive afterward. Sleeping on site or arranging a ride back solves it. Ask the estate about tasting hours and conditions.

In the countryside

Il Colle del Sole lies about 6 km from town, at the foot of Monte San Vicino. It suits you if you want quiet and trails nearby. With that distance, plan your transport for dinners and visits in advance.
