The Museo Piersanti: what it is and where to find it
The Museo Piersanti is at Via Umberto I 11 in Matelica. It is a house museum with a picture gallery. The collections also include decorative arts and archaeological holdings.
The 2016 earthquake damaged the museum's holdings. After restoration, the reopening was inaugurated on 21 December 2025. The idea that the museum is still closed because of the quake is therefore out of date.

The earthquake and the reopening
The tremors between August and October 2016 damaged the historic and artistic heritage of Matelica. The museum describes on its website how the works were secured and restored.
The reopening on 21 December 2025 concerns the Museo Piersanti. It does not apply to the whole town: some historic buildings in Matelica are still unusable. The Palazzo comunale and the church of San Francesco are listed as unusable, with no reopening date.
Check where the Globo di Matelica is before you go. The municipality says it is temporarily at the Piersanti, while the local tourist office says it is at the National Archaeological Museum in Ancona. If you want to see it, ask the museum first.

The Civic Archaeological Museum is not the Piersanti
These are two separate museums in two separate buildings.
